A friend of mine posted a photo on my timeline the other night. “America is about to give birth and soon we will find out if it is a boy or a girl”. This photo really got me thinking… America has had a very complicated pregnancy and a very long labor. America has not been healthy during this pregnancy and lots of underlying diseases have surfaced as a result. My role as a “midwife” (an intercessor) is to be ever watchful in labor particularly in the third and fourth stage of labor (after the birth of the baby and placenta). The baby has been born and people are celebrating too early! We must be watchful for signs of hemorrhage which is leading cause of maternal mortality! We must be watchful for signs of asphyxia in the newborn as a result from such a long labor! We must carefully examine the woman (America) and the one “born” to her. This baby is unhealthy and honestly it wouldn’t have mattered if this baby was a boy or a girl; what matters is that if the mother (America) is malnourished and in poor health then the baby will also be malnourished and in poor health!
Beyond the visible signs of distress in the mother/ baby there can also be invisible signs. One such “invisible” disease that if not detected can destroy the mother from within is cervical/ ovarian cancer. Under the influence of hormones in pregnancy cancer cells can actually grow and go undetected! This is why it is important to have continued care in the postpartum period!
From my understanding cancer cells are essentially cells of the body that have revolted against the body and have turned to destroy it! This is significant! We cannot let the body be destroyed from within!
It is my job as a “midwife”, as a “skilled birth assistant” (as an intercessor) to be ever watchful and ever prayerful of the state of MamaBaby “America”.
I’d like to call the Church to the same! We cannot abandon ship now! Too much is at stake. The lives of both the mother and baby are at stake and we must do all we can to make sure they bond and receive nourishment in this time in order that both might live long, healthy, and fruitful lives! We must come around as a community and even though we may think she just birthed the most ugly baby, or even though we may not agree with the “type of labor” she went through or the way she cared for herself during her pregnancy, she has become a mother once again and needs our love and support! We must show her love so that she may love her baby well! Love and attachment foster growth! Hate and detachment can lead to catastrophic outcomes for MotherBaby!
My heart is heavy for those that are breathing a sigh of relief! This is no time to do so!
The time is here, the time is now! This is a time to be extra diligent! We must stand united in love!
